Materials with memory effect can change its form under the influence of temperature changes. Their usage has grown in automotive industry, architecture, at home etc. A new kind of elastic polymer was created at the University of Rochester. At room temperature it has specified form and under the influence of human skin temperature it takes its original form. US scientists have created a material with significantly reduced temperature parameter, after overcoming of which transformation within its tissues begins. Now this parameter is 35°C. The polymer turned out to be strong, stretchy and easy-changing when coming in contact with human skin. Not only the material itself but also its molecular polymer chain stretches. Molecules are crystallized, facilitating shape retention. Adding necessary elements to the polymer structure it is possible to return its original form. Moreover, when deforming, the material receives enough energy to lift objects 1 000 times heavier than its own weight. This was demonstrated in the YouTube video.

Scientists believe that the material can be used to create artificial skin or clothing that adjust to the wearer's body shape.
