A program which replicates handwriting

The unique feature of a human being - the handwriting - will be reproduced by a computer program. The authors of the project are researchers from University College London.

A program needs only one paragraph of a handwritten text to generate a new one. The text is transformed into a line by a computer and then divided into words and letters. In such a way the program memorizes variants of symbol spelling typical of a person.

While copying the handwriting the program compares the spelling of one and the same letter and selects the best variant of symbols’ connection. During the experiment it was found that in 40% of situations people cannot differentiate a program-written text from a text written by a human.

The program will be used by law-enforcement authorities.
