First underwater restaurant in Europe to open in 2019

Norwegian architecture firm Snøhetta unveiled plans to build the first underwater restaurant in Europe. A new building is due to open in Norway in 2019. The beginning of construction works is scheduled for February 2018.

Restaurant with self-explanatory name "Under" will be located on the southernmost point of Norwegian coastline. Part of it will be built above-ground, and the restaurant itself will be located at a 5-meter depth. An entrance over sea level will take guests to a champagne bar.

There are no information on the size of the building, but restaurant will be large enough to accommodate up to 100 guests. Snøhetta plans to use a special heating system so that the restaurant can work summer and winter.

Interestingly, the restaurant will also be used as a marine biology research centre. Researchers will be able to study fish behaviour in the building.
