Mimaki unveils a photopolymer 3D printer with more than 10 million colours

Japanese company Mimaki launches a professional photopolymer 3D printer, which can print full-colour products. The device has more than 10 million possible colour combinations.

The ultra-high resolution liquid inkjet system selectively deposit “ink” on a surface in layers, then ultraviolet LED subsystem illuminates the layer to solidify it. This is how 3DUJ-553 system works.

3D printer uses 8 piezoelectric print heads and ink with acrylic resin for printing.

Developers recommend using water-soluble structure as a support material. CMYK colour ink is used for colouring the resin.

Specifications:

  • Available modeling area – 508 × 508 × 305 mm;
  • Modeling time: High speed mode: 14.4 hours 600x300x600dpi (42 μm);
  • standard mode: 17.0 hours 600x300x800dpi (32 μm);
  • high definition mode: 25.7 hours 600x300x1270dpi (22 μm);
  • on-board camera to monitor the printing process.

Manufacturers claim, the device will create photorealistic coloured objects, minimizing the time required for post-processing. Moreover, water-soluble structure can be easily washed away with water after printing without leaving any traces on the object. Therefore, the finished product will be of higher quality and it will take less time to produce it.

Mimaki 3D printer will be available at the end of this year.
